Berlin’s oldest passenger vessel enters a new green era powered by Torqeedo
Torqeedo’s Customized Solutions team converted the 138-year-old Kaiser Friedrich to electric power, saving over 150 liters of diesel per operating hour.
The massive, 100-ton steamer is powered by twin Deep Blue 50i motors and a 400 kWh Deep Blue battery bank.
The historic 150-passenger vessel will enter regular service on 13 May 2024

The Kaiser Friedrich, a twin-screw steamship, plied Berlin’s waters for almost 80 years before it was decommissioned in 1967. It has a large upper deck covering most of the ship's length. The hull is pale blue and the upper deck white. There is a white single tall funnel which is now redundant.
